Moonah Arts Centre, owned and run by Glenorchy City Council, is one of Tasmania’s most popular arts and cultural spaces, with more than 40,000 visitors a year. The council wanted to know whether corporate events could bring in revenue to support its community programs.
episteme analysed the Greater Hobart events market through 20 interviews with industry specialists and potential clients, and a review of comparable venues. The centre has real points of difference: a professional stage and AV, an indoor–outdoor courtyard, an urban, creative feel and a strong community connection. But corporate clients expect easy, all-inclusive, hosted packages.
There is room to grow alongside the centre’s community commitments. Our five recommendations start with a business plan that makes venue hire part of the centre’s core business. They also cover partnerships with Business Events Tasmania and Destination Southern Tasmania, and corporate social responsibility collaborations.
